Elsie Faulk Milteer quietly transitioned on Friday, September 15, 2023 surrounded by her family. Born in Nansemond County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James Thomas Faulk, Sr and Carthine Faulk Milteer.
Elsie was a graduate of East Suffolk High School and was active with the East Suffolk Alumni, of which she enjoyed participating in the various activities of the organization.
She was a devoted member of Mt. Ararat Christian Church where she faithfully served on several ministries which included Women's Fellowship, Senior Choir, and the Deaconess Ministry.
While she was proud of all her affiliations, one that was near and dear to her heart was being a member of the Family Affair, Inc. as it was a representation of her family's accomplishments.
Elsie was a homemaker and stay at home mom for several years of which allowed her to embellish in a passion for sewing. She later entered the workforce and was employed for several years with Central Foods, Inc. She then went on to work for Leggett's Department Store (known now as Belk's). There here tenure ran through retirement.
Although retirement was at hand, Elsie knew there was still work left in her. She then went on tot work with the family-owned business, East End Laundromat. There she found joy in not only helping the patrons of the community, but an even greater joy being able to share God's goodness and His word with those she encountered.
Her unconditional love for her family was extended to all in connection with them. She will always be affectionately remembered as "Grandma Elsie" to many friends of the family and community.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Luther W. Milteer, Sr. Also preceding her were 7 brothers and 6 sisters.
She leaves to cherish her undying memory, two sons, Luther Watson Milteer, Jr. and Michael (Sherry) Milteer, both of Suffolk; four daughters, Gail Milteer, Louvenia (Shelton Smith) Milteer, Letitia Milteer of Suffolk and Lisa Milteer of Wyncote, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Denise Milteer, Brittany (Ben) Raikes, Evangelist Linda (Minister Antonio) Brown and Serena Brittingham; six great-grandchildren, Armani Milteer, Jamie (Jaylen) Wright, Nickalas Cole, Destinee (Harold) Williams, Dejanee (Andrew) Margason, Jamarea Lowery, and Jaden Lowery; great-great granddaughter, Alaya Wright; she also leaves one sister, Louvenia White and one sister-in-law, Sarah Milteer. Her memory will also be cherished by her bonus sons, Bishop Kevin R. White, Gordon Dacosta, Evangelist Willie Riddick, and Raiquan Dildy, and a special niece Betty Brooks and special friends, Hurley Lloyd and Velma Vincent along with a host of relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held 2:00 pm. Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Mt. Ararat Christian United Church. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
