Woodrow Green, Jr.

June 20, 1942 — August 6, 2018

Woodrow Green, Jr., 76, passed quietly and peacefully into eternal rest on August 6, 2018 at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA. He was a native of Suffolk, VA, and the elder son of the late Woodrow and Elizabeth Wood Green. Woodrow was a 1963 graduate of East Suffolk High School, and was drafted into the US Army Infantry Corp in December 1966. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran where he served two (2) tours of duty in Vietnam from 1967-68 and 1970-71, and stationed at military bases in Germany, Oklahoma, North Carolina, New Jersey, and Mississippi during his military career. While in the military, he became a Drill Instructor earning the rank of First Sergeant, and retired Master Sergeant as an ROTC Cadet Teacher at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. After twenty (20) years of military service, he entered civilian employment at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA as Gate Guard Security for fifteen (15) years. Woodrow is survived by his wife, Naomi Hicks Green of Suffolk, VA; two sisters, Elizabeth G. Andrews (Richard) of Suffolk, VA; and Linda G. Jones of Chesapeake, VA; one brother, Milton S. Green (Yvonne) of Chesapeake, VA; three aunts, Virginia Cuffee of Portsmouth, VA; Estella W. Jones and Mattie Wood of Suffolk, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Suffolk, VA. Interment will be at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.
