William T. Willis

William T. Willis, Jr., 90, of Wren Road, Suffolk, VA transitioned Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Concordia Nansemond Pointe. He was the son of the late William Willis and Larnell Ward Willis. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Henry Thomas and Ronald Willis;brother, Kenneth Willis and sister, Evelyn Willis Bolden. William attended East Suffolk School. He joined the Army at a young age. He fought in World War II and received a Victory Medal. After an honorable discharge from the United States Army, he began work at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He completed the apprenticeship program and earned a certificate as a journeyman helper and sheet metal mechanic. William retired from Norfolk from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 38 years of faithful and dedicated service. William was a member of House of Prayer Ministries in Hampton, VA and former member of Greater New Hope Church of God in Christ. He held the office of Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Superintendent, trustee and president of the finance committee. William loved carpentry and repairing various types of construction projects. He enjoyed general upkeep and maintain the grounds at Greater New Hope C.O.G.I.C. He also enjoyed baseball and deep sea fishing on the weekends. He kept a beautiful garden full of fresh vegetables and shared with many. He said it was his ministry. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Eunice Willis of Suffolk; four daughters, Sarah Thomas of Philadelphia, Patricia Thomas of Baltimore, MD, Tonia Willis of Suffolk and Bridgitte Willis-Townsell (John) of Newport News; son, Michael Willis of Portsmouth; brother, Samuel Willis;daughter in law, Ada Willis; 15 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 19 great great grandchildren; many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018 at Mt. Lebanon Church of God in Christ. He will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
