On Thursday morning, October 26, 2022, our dearly beloved – William Rainey Jones –transitioned peacefully into eternal rest. William Jones (a.k.a. “Boot) was born March 12, 1943, to George Jones and Mary Virginia Vaughn in Franklin, Virginia. William was educated in Franklin Public Schools. He relocated to New York where he worked and retired as tractor-trailer trainer for New York City Transit Authority. After retirement, he returned to his roots in Virginia whereby he became an active member of Chapel Grove United Church of Christ in Windsor, Virginia where he sung in the male chorus. William loved and sang eclectic music. He was well-known for the attire he wore. He also loved to cook and would always make anyone feel welcomed into his home. William is predeceased by the following: his parents, George Jones and Virginia Evans; his siblings Ethel Mae Perkinson (Wallace), Katherine Copeland (Zackery Copeland), and Larry Vaughn (Rafrika); and two children, Russell Jones (a.k.a. ODB), and Dionne Jones (a.k.a. Dee Dee). William leaves to cherish his memory the following: beloved wife for over 38 years, Cherry Jones of Clermont, Florida; seven children, Saundra Collins, William Jones, Jr. (Carolyn), Mark Jones (Mildred), Monique Jones, Lamarenae Jones, Aisha Jones, and Christopher Jones. He also has a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, family and friends. Viewing will be held 1-7 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held noon, Friday, November 4, 2022 at Chapel Grove U.C.C. 7366 West Blackwater Road, Windsor, Virginia 23487.
