William McCray, Jr.

William McCray, Jr, also known as "The Godfather" was born on August 31, 1945 in Suffolk, VA to the late Bertha and William McCray, Sr. William retired from Gwaltney, as a truck driver after 31 years. He love to joke and talk trash to everyone that came around. William McCray, Jr. departed this life on Saturday, August 12 at his home. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jessie McCray and Charles McCray; and sisters, Lucille Butts, Emma Jan Beale, and Mary Belfield. Treasuring his memory are his wife, Janet McCray (wife of 40 years); two children, Lynn Lassiter of Suffolk, VA and Corey Thomas of Newport News, VA; seven grandchildren, Donte' Lassiter, Latrise Lassiter, Samiayah Lassiter, Kameron Lassiter, Karen Lassiter, Shakira Pettaway, and Corey Thomas, Jr; godson, Desmond Allen; six great grandchildren; five sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces nephews, cousins, and friends. A viewing will be held 1-7 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2023 at Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held noon, Tuesday, August 22, 2023 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Little Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
