William Levy Sparrow

January 19, 1940 — May 8, 2023

William Levy Sparrow was born on January 19, 1940, in Suffolk, Virginia. He was the 5th child out of 7 children born to William David Sparrow and Marie Sparrow. William is survived by his sister Lucille Dildy, his son Dale, his loving daughter Willina Sparrow and his grandchildren Vanae Madison and Justin Reid. As a young child, William was a very creative and inquisitive. He would take apart and fix almost any toy he was given. He enjoyed having fun with his siblings. They would often play marbles and other family games together. William also played baseball and sang in the St. Marks Church choir with his brothers and sisters. William went to Ida Easter Grade School as an adolescent and attended East Suffolk High School and Virginia State College. While in high school, William worked part-time in construction for Rev. Charles W. Cuffee along with his older brother John. In 1961 William married the Reverends stepdaughter Eleanor DeLoatch and soon after he and Eleanor relocated up north to Englewood, New Jersey and three years later William and Eleanor gave birth to their first child Dale. After William and Eleanor divorced, William continued to work as a construction worker in New York City. In 1972 while working in New York, William met his second wife Marian Frazier and in 1974 the couple welcomed their daughter Willina. William was known by everyone for wearing his trademark cowboy hats and you would never catch him without on (not even while sleeping). He was very talented and loved to draw. Sports such as basketball, football and track was something William played as a teen and loved to watch as an adult. William loved water and enjoyed spending time on his boats fishing with loved ones and friends. He loved to watch movies and enjoyed singing. William was a practical joker and a very likeable, fun and outgoing person. William left an imprint on almost everyone he had crossed paths with during his lifetime. On May 8th, 2023, William made his final transition. He will never be forgotten and he will be truly loved and missed. William is now at rest peacefully alongside his parents William and Marie Sparrow and his siblings Bertha, Willie Mae, John, Princess and Fred Sparrow.
