William Thomas “Bill” Fletcher, Sr., 68, of Portsmouth, VA, peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to his Heavenly reward on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Maryview Medical Center. Bill was born on January 27, 1955 in Isle of Wight County, VA to the late Charles Henry Fletcher and Alma Louise Holmes Fletcher. Bill was educated in the Suffolk Public School System; having attended Mount Zion of Suffolk Job Corp. William furthered his education by attending Tidewater Community College. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army with dedication and bravery. William was the epitome of a hard-working man which he demonstrated through his loyal service at Eagle Transport. William met the love of his life and was joined together in holy matrimony to Alma J. Thomas on November 16, 1975. From this union, they created a beautiful family founded on love, patience, and kindness. During his leisure, William enjoyed reading, watching TV, shooting pool, and playing cards; specifically Bid Whist and Spades. When it came time for laughter, you couldn’t beat him at Trash Talking, as he was the King! William also had a thirst for knowledge; and was an avid History fanatic. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by a son, William T. Fletcher, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Lynn and Jeanette Holmes; paternal grandparents, Charles and Lucille Fletcher; three sisters, Helen Fletcher, Ann Fletcher, and Jackie Fletcher; and three brothers, Frank Fletcher, Larry Fletcher, and Walter Fletcher. William leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving wife of 47 years, Alma J. Fletcher; children, Muriel Fletcher, Vontrice Fletcher, Kyesha K. Fletcher, Antonio L. Fletcher, and Tiffany L. Fletcher; five sisters, Brenda Tucker of Suffolk, VA, Tricia Edward Clifford of Norfolk, VA, Joan Forbes of Chesapeake, VA, Geraldine King (Derrick) of Norfolk, VA and Eloris Collins of Hampton, VA; two brothers, Johnny Brooks of Norfolk, VA and Randy Holmes (Brenda) of Franklin, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. Viewing will be held prior to the service. Mr. Fletcher will be laid to rest in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
