Wilbur Junior Johnson, a native of Suffolk, VA and a resident of Springdale Apartments, Franklin, VA answered the call of our Savior to come home, and he peacefully closed his eyes and began his eternal life on July 22, 2023. Wilbur was born on June 18, 1946, the son of the late Edward Johnson and the late Ruth B. Hamlin Johnson. He accepted Chris as his personal Savior at an early age. He could tell you the story of Boaz and Ruth. He is predeceased by his 5 grandsons Samme Smith, Monte Johnson, Jeffrey Baysmore, Jr., Rasheed Talley, DeMarcus Anderson; 2 great grandchildren Joh’Saani Baysmore, JKyle T. Lewis; mother of his 6 children Patricia Holmes. Wilbur attended Suffolk Public School System. He was raised in White City of Suffolk and his family later moved to the Boston Area of Suffolk, Virginia. He worked for State Transportation, City of Chesapeake (Public Works), Smithfield Packing (Ham Boning), and later retired from John F. Kennedy Middle School. Wilbur was known to most as Peter Johnson. He is a past member of Greater Suffolk Lodge and was a DJ of Music known to spin the records 33’s and 45’s. He’s a past Master Mason and current member of Stars of Sharon 231 Suffolk, VA for 50 plus years. Peter was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed fixing anything. In earlier years, Peter was the handyman for St. Mark Church. Peter loved his family and friends. He was his nieces and nephews only Uncle. They will kindly let you know “We Only Have One” – Missy, Dave, Ricky, Hamp, Lynn, Vann, Ernie, Desi, Vonda, Sonja, and Tee. Peter was a true Washington Commanders fan and loved his model cars. On a nice day you could find Peter sitting around listening to his Oldie but Goodies. Peter leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 57 years Patricia Perry Johnson, 3 sister, 3 sons Chris Johnson (Constance), IamMaku Allah (Keona Lawrence), David Harris (Pamela Peterson); 7 daughters Deidra J. Hill (Don), Sonya Brown (Michael), Tracey Wilson (Tommy Hamlin), Makeshia Holmes -Goodwyn (Travis Brown), Monica Floyd (Byron), 2 devoted daughters Patricia Wilson (Vernon Woodson), Robin Johnson-Parham (Antonio); 3 sisters Betty Ann Pope, Marree Mabine and Teresa Johnson; 1 aunt Dorothy Jefferson; 39 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; 4 adopted daughters Darlene Harris, Angela Harris-Lenoir, Vanessa Cannady, and Vanessa Walker; close friend Rosa Joyner; and a host of many more relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2023 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Little Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
