Walter Dewey Fletcher

December 8, 1956 — April 13, 2022

Early on the morning of April 13, 2022, Walter Dewey Fletcher, 65, of Franklin, VA, peacefully transitioned from this earthly life into his home in eternity. Walter was born on December 8, 1956 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia to the late Charles Henry Fletcher and Alma Louise Holmes Fletcher. He received his education in the Suffolk Public School System, having attended Mount Zion School. He furthered his studies at Job Corp and as a student in Culinary School. Upon entering the career field, Walter gained employment with the shipyard and worked at several locations including Norfolk, Newport News and Portsmouth Shipyards. Walter was a faithful and dedicated employee, serving as a fire watchman within the industry. Walter was a sports fanatic, who enjoyed watching all types of sports. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing pool (billiards) and cards. When it came to “trash talking,” Walter was the King and you couldn’t beat him at his trade! Walter was predeceased by his wife, Emma Lee Fletcher; a son, Walter Fletcher, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Lynn and Jeanette Holmes; paternal grandparents, Charles and Lucille Fletcher; siblings, Helen Fletcher, Frank Fletcher, Ann Fletcher, Larry Fletcher and Jackie Fletcher. Walter leaves to cherish his memories and his life’s legacy to brothers, William T. Fletcher (Alma) of Portsmouth, VA, Johnny Brooks of Norfolk, VA, Randy Holmes (Brenda) of Franklin, VA; sisters, Brenda Tucker of Suffolk, VA, Tricia Edward Clifford of Norfolk, VA, Joan Forbes of Chesapeake, VA, Geraldine King (Derrick) of Norfolk, VA, and Eloris Collins of Hampton, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2022 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. Bishop Clifford Edwards will deliver the message of comfort. He will be laid to rest in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
