Vondrae Demitrius Hicks
“For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord.

On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Norfolk Sentara Heart Hospital, God called our
beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin and friend home
Vondrae entered this world on April 18, 1965, in Suffolk, Virginia. He was the youngest of four children born to the late Theodore R. Hicks Sr. and the late Therese Walker Hicks.
He graduated from John Yeates high school in 1984. After graduation, Vondrae held several positions at Smithfield Foods and the Suffolk Sheriff’s Department. Eventually he started his own trucking business and drove charter buses for various organizations. He ended his transportation career at Suffolk Public School where he worked until his health declined.
Vondrae was a former member of St. Timothy Baptist Church and a member of the Star of Sharon Masonic Temple 231. Never one to sit still, Vondrae joined Suffolk’s corvette and motorcycle clubs.
Vondrae was kindhearted, loved to laugh and loved his family. He was the kind of person who would sit down and talk to you for hours.
He is preceded in death by his fraternal twin brother Andrae Hicks and sister-in-law Jacqueline A. Hicks.
He is survived by his wife Angela Hicks of Suffolk. His daughter Tenesha Hicks, also of Suffolk, loving sister Cheryl Roberts (Jonathan) of Waldorf, Maryland and loving brother Theodore R. Hicks Jr. (Renee) of Williamsburg, Va. His aunts Dollie Frazier and Beatrice L. Williams of Suffolk. More like brothers and sisters than cousins Bridgette Rider, Shawn Warren, Terrance Warren, Darryl Williams, Keith Williams. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the home of Jerome and Bridgette Rider, located at 1126 White Herons Lane, Suffolk, VA 23434. The gatherings will take place on Wednesday, May 6, Thursday, May 7, and Friday, May 8, 2026, beginning each evening at 5:30 p.m. and continuing until.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. A celebration of life will take place at Missouri Baptist Church, 2020 Lake Cohoon Rd. Suffolk, Va. 23434. He will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery located at 2320 East Washington Street, Suffolk, Va. 23434.
