Vivian Elizabeth Owens Wiggins, 90, of Suffolk, Virginia passed away peacefully at Sentara Obici Hospital, 2800 Godwin Blvd, Suffolk on November 11, 2019. She was born in Pasquotank County, NC and the only child of the late Arthur Vernon McClease and Amanda Delilah Owens Hembree. She was predeceased in death by her parents and her husband, Wilbert Wiggins, Sr. Vivian completed her formal education in Pasquotank County Public Schools, Pasquotank County, VA. She retired from Suffolk Public Schools after preparing wonderful meals for students for 22 years. She was known for her famous "homemade rolls and cinnamon rolls". Vivian joined church at an early age and was baptized under the Rev. J.R.R. McRay, Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church in Elizabeth City. Upon relocating and marriage, she moved her membership to Canaan Baptist Church in 1963 and became a diligent participant with the Usher Ministry, Mothers Board Ministry, Youth Department Ministry-Adult Sponsor, Young Adult Choir, Culinary Ministry, Pastor Aid, Family and Friends Day and Church Anniversary Committees. She loved working in the community has preparing meals to neighbors who needed some extra love and unexpected treats during her participation as a member of the Nansemond Parkway Civic League. Holidays were special for those who loved her southern fruit cakes and bread pudding was a true delight for tasting. Above all, Vivian cherished her time spent with family, friends, and the enjoyment of cooking. Baking was her passion and she loved sharing her culinary skills with family, friends, and even the person who simply needed a meal with unconditional love. No one was ever a stranger and could always count on a great meal from her kitchen. She was the "take charge" matriarch of the family. She is survived by her four children, Shirley C. Little, Newport News, VA; Vicki C. Wiggins-Pittman (Stanley) of Suffolk, VA; Bill Johnson (Vivian), Chesapeake, VA; Wilbert Wiggins, Jr. (Karen), Suffolk, VA; four grandchildren, Joy Chris, Keisha, and Carl; 10 great grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Cennie James, three god children, Nadine Eason, Iris Michelle Roberts and Dontrell Jamar Silver and a host of cousins and close friends. A homegoing celebration service will be held at Canaan Baptist Church, 2064 Nansemond Parkway, Suffolk, on Monday, November 18, at noon. Viewing will begin at 10:30 a.m. and interment will finalize this earthly journey at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Road, Suffolk, VA 23435. Visitation will begin Friday, November 15 at 4:00 p.m. at 1090 Fairgrounds Lane, Suffolk at the home of Wilbert and Karen Wiggins. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Sentara Family Medical Center, Dr. William Jackson and staff; Sentara Obici Hospital ER staff; ICU staff; step down staff/team; Autumn Care of Suffolk East Wing staff/team; Candlewood Suites staff (Portsmouth Blvd site) and many friends and professional caregivers throughout her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations in Vivian Wiggins' name, may be mad to Canaan Baptist Church Building Fund (2064 Nansemond Parkway, Suffolk, VA 23434). The family takes comfort in words from one of her favorite scriptures: 2nd Timothy 4:7-1 I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
