Vernon Woodson

Vernon L. Woodson entered eternal rest on Thursday, May 2, 2024. He was born on September 13, 1955 to the late Walter Woodson, Sr. and Lelear B. Woodson. He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce L. Woodson; two brothers, Walter Woodson, Jr. and Roosevelt Woodson; two nephews, Romane Woodson and Christopher Steward; two sisters-in-law, Helen Woodson and Carol M. Woodson.

He was educated in the Suffolk Public School System. Vernon was a loving father, brother, grandfather and uncle. Vernon was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. He retired from Vitex Packing Company. He loved fishing and sports especially the Buffalo Bills football team.

He leaves to cherish his memories three children, Kersia Woodson, Veronica Vaughan (Michael) and Vernon Woodson (Patricia); five grandchildren, Alexis, Ashley, Amari, Verkiya and Ja'Miya; three great-grandchildren, Ashton, Adriana and Angel; four sisters, Betty J. Steward, Shirley Thompson, Eula Woodson and Yvonne Knight (Nathaniel); three brothers, James Woodson (Carolyn), Larry Woodson (Silveria) and Michael Woodson; two brothers-in-law, Wilbert Brown (Barbara) and Alphonisa Harris (Barbara); three aunts, Arminta Rawls, Doris Rawls and Louise Rawls. A host of many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.


A viewing will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024 2-7 p.m. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
