Vernon Wilson was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was born to Mildred Skeeter and Henry Ridley on April 18, 1952, in Suffolk Virginia. He passed away peacefully in his NYC home on the morning of February 13, 2024. He was deeply loved as the only child of his mother and brought immense joy to her life throughout his 71 years.

His formal education began at East Suffolk Elementary School and later moved to Jamaica Queens where he attended Intermediate School 231, and Andrew Jackson High School. Throughout his life, Vernon held various positions in both the printing field and at JFK Airport. From apprentice roles to positions of expertise, his dedication and skills left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

A devoted parent to his four children, Vernon exemplified unwavering love, guidance, and support throughout their lives. His eldest daughters, Theresa Wilson and Darlene Wilson, were dear to him. Later, in his union with Leslie Wilson, he found enduring happiness, and together they welcomed Sidney Wilson and Simone Wilson into their lives. Vernon was a pillar of strength, offering steadfast love, guidance, and support throughout all their lives, even amidst the loss of his wife Leslie.

A vibrant and energetic man, often the life of the party with his contagious enthusiasm and lively spirit. He had a remarkable gift for bringing smiles to people's faces. With a generous heart, he was always ready to give and share with others. Family meant everything to him. Vernon frequently spoke of his travels down I-95 to Virginia, where he cherished every moment spent with loved ones. In addition to his vibrant personality, Vernon was known for his impeccable sense of style, always turning heads with his fashionable attire and sophisticated demeanor. He effortlessly combined elegance with charm, leaving a lasting impression wherever he went. However, it was his mastery of the saxophone that truly set him apart. He was not only a soloist, captivating audiences with his soulful melodies, but he was also a valued member of numerous bands throughout his life. His saxophone was an extension of his spirit which brought him happiness and allowed him to express his soul through music.

Vernon is predeceased by his father Henry, wife Leslie, and brothers Paul and T- bone. He is survived by his mother Mildred Skeeter; his four children Theresa Wilson, Darlene Wilson, Sidney Wilson and Simone Wilson; Sisters Puddin, Minnie Lou, Anette, and Barbara; Brothers Buttermilk, Dennis, and Tony Wilson; Aunt Therese Skeeter; Sister-in-Law Cynthia Edward; three grandchildren, Timothy Jr., Tiarra, and Tavon; Niece Chantia and family; Nephew Devaughn and family; and a host of cousins and good friends.

A viewing will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, March 3, 2024  followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 p.m. in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home.  He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
