Vernon Waters, 69, of Waters Avenue transitioned Saturday, June 16, 2018 at his residence. HE was the son of the late Bessie Viola Waters and Robert Henry Waters. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Andre Stokes, and brother, Roosevelt Waters and Robert Lee Phillips. He attended John F. Kennedy High School. He retired from Planters Peanuts (Kraft) in 2012 after 42 years of faithful and dedicated service. Vernon was a member of St. Phillips Pentecostal Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, Pastors’ Aide, Trustee Board, Transportation Ministry, and Wednesday night Bible Study until his health failed. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Geraldine Waters of Suffolk; two daughters, Anita M. Waters of Suffolk and Christina Waters of Richmond; three sons, Cordrell Waters (Shawanee) of Suffolk, Dermain Waters of Portsmouth, and Derrick Riddick, Sr., of Brooklyn; sister, Shirley Arline (Joe); three brothers, Henry Lee Waters (Yvonne), John C. Waters (Mary), and Robert Earl Waters (Oris); god daughter, Devon Hollimon of S.C; devoted niece, Pamela Waters; uncle, Willie B. Beamon; 18 grandchildren; Makeem Ricks, Mya Jacobs, Kenyelle Waters, Derrica Riddick, Derrick Riddick, Jr., Tionna Waters, Djon Brabson, Deja Waters, Tevin Young, Alante Cooley, Amani Cooley, Chicora Waters-Fenner, Zyveaire Waters, Taylor Armain Waters-Holley, Brandon Hollimon, Darrian Hollimon and Brianna Hollimon; 8 great grandchildren; Tyler Waters, Skyy Ray, Auria Cooley, Ka’Ron Cooley, Sincere Ricks, Ta’Nya Ricks, Ma’Kyia Ricks and Amir Ricks; a host of relative and friends. A celebration of life will be held 1:oo p.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 at St. Phillips Pentecostal Church, 728 Ashley Avenue. Bishop Marshall C. Godwin, Sr will deliver the message of comfort.
