Our beloved Trina Sharon Newby Ferguson, a cherished mother, daughter, wife, aunt, sister and friend left us too soon on December 27, 2025, at Sentara Obici Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter as she was always willing to extend her hand whenever needed. Naturally beautiful, Trina carried an inner light that illuminated every space she entered and every life she touched.
Trina was born November 29, 1978, at Obici Memorial Hospital. She is the loving daughter of Barbara Cotton Newby and the late Robert Lawrence who greeted her in heaven along with her great-grand mother Mary Lawrence, grandmother Evelyn Johnson, mother-in-law Linda B. Ferguson, aunts, uncles, cousins and cherished friends.
Trina was baptized at New First Baptist Hosier Road under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Lemuel Greene. Trina received her early education in the Suffolk Public school system graduating from Lakeland High School class of 1997. She went on to receive her associate's degree from Paul D. Camp Community College and her bachelor's degree in computer science from Norfolk State University in 2005. She was previously employed with Q.V.C. Chesapeake call center, Paul D. Camp Community College as a TRIO advisor and currently with Tidewater Community College as an advisor with Student Support Services developing professional and personal relationships with her students in both roles. Of all the roles and titles Trina held, her most cherished role was being a mother to her beloved Jasmine who is her true mini me and embodies her mother's energetic personality and sparkling smile. Trina embraced motherhood with tenderness, patience, and unwavering devotion.
She leaves to honor her memory her loving husband Kevin, daughter Jasmine Shardae the light of her life, mother Barbara Cotton Newby, sister Yvonne Newby both of Suffolk VA. Brothers Quinton L. Whack (Denise) of Middle River MD, Todd Majette (Faye) of Suffolk VA and SSgt Robert D. Lawrence of South Korea. Brother-in-law Michael Ferguson. Nephew/son Justin X. Henderson of Suffolk VA, Gerard Bradley of Waldorf MD, Trezell Whack of Akron OH, Jaylon Whack of Washington D.C. and niece Miesha Whack of District Heights MD. God-mother Dr. Hyler Scott, Father-in –law Robert McClure. Sisters-in-law Kimberly Ferguson, Crystal Plater and Melanie Gaines (Hakeem). Sister-in-love Chariety Brown, Dora Brown, Elena Morris, JoAnn Hawk and Melisa Hill. Devoted aunt Mary Chambliss (Lee) of Suffolk VA, Audrey Graham of Newport News VA and Anetta Graham (Larry) of Clinton MD. Devoted uncle Sherman Johnson of Suffolk VA, Irvian Cotton (Patricia) of Suffolk VA, Kent Johnson of Portsmouth VA and Marvin Burrell of Norfolk VA. Special Cousin Mischell Cotton. God children Jala Moore, Eniazjha Moore and Diamante Moore. She also leaves behind many loving cousins and friends to honor her memory.

All those who crossed paths with Trina knew they were in the presence of a true angel. Known for her beautiful smile and bubbly personality. She is loved dearly and will be missed beyond measure.
The family would like to give a very special thanks to the caring nursing staff of Sentara Obici Hospital I.C.U., Sentara Norfolk General Oncology and VOA for their loving care of our beloved Trina S. Ferguson.
A public viewing will be held 2-5 pm, Friday, January 9, 2026, in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Gates of Heaven C.O.G.I.C. Mrs. Ferguson will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
