Tony Gates

Tony Gates, 55, of Causey Avenue, Suffolk transitioned Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at Sentara Heart Hospital, Norfolk. He was the son of the late Enid Gates and Roland Gates, Sr. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Antonio Gates; brothers, James Nickelson, Eugene Gates, and Roland Gates, Jr.; sister, Sylvia Gates.Tony was a Suffolk High School graduate of the class of 1981. He retired in 1997 after 16 years to Cherry Point Naval Depot. He was a member of Total Transformation House of Praise (TTHOP) where he served as Trustee.He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Johnetta Gates, godson, George Gates, Jr.,; three brothers, Charles Gates (Thelma) of Gates, NC, George Gates (Velma) of Suffolk, and Reginald Gates(Maryanne) of Greensville, SC; three sisters, Darlene Gates, Debbie Gates, and Connie Holliman all of Suffolk; three foster brothers, Andre Wilson, William Madison (Claudia), and James Brinkley; foster sister, Joanne Greene (Herbert); a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.A celebration of life will be held noon, Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Rising St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church. Pastor Glendell Whitfield will deliver the message of comfort. Pastor Robert A. Wilkins is host pastor. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
