Tommy Lee Lowe

October 17, 1937 — April 29, 2021

Tommy Lee Lowe, the son of the late Hayward and Mary Lowe, was born on October 17, 1937 in Macon Georgia. On Wednesday April 28, 2021, he slipped quietly away into eternal rest at Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, VA. Along with his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his brother Willie B. As a young man, worked on a local milk truck while in grade school to earn money for his family. Tommy began a career with the New York City Housing Authority in New York City, New York. In 1966 Tommy began a fulfilling career with the New York Transit Authority where he worked until his retirement twenty years later. Graduating from Ballard Hudson Highschool Settling into life in New York City, Tommy met his true love, Ellen (Delores) Baker first as his neighbor. Eight years later, after running into one another again on a Bronx subway, Tommy said to Ellen, “don’t I know you?” Ellen replied in a question, “you do?” After a brief exchange Ellen then said, “you do know me,” to which Tommy replied “Delores?” … and it was history from that moment! Tommy and Ellen were wed in holy matrimony on December 2, 1972. They resided in Co-Op City (Bronx) for three years before relocating to Central Islip Long, Island New York where they lived for many years. Tommy, a “no nonsense” type of man, was well respected by his peers because he always followed the rules set forth by management. Tommy was also well respected by the men in the crew that he supervised and by other fellow co-workers. You would always see Tommy with his corn pipe. If he did not agree with something that was said, he would say “Oh Shucks!” He was willing to help in any way possible! Tommy was a great reader! As a Baptist, profoundly serious about his personal Bible Studies, every Sunday he would listen to the Word of God from Pastor Frederick K. Price. A great husband, wonderful father and awesome grandfather, Tommy made sure that we were well cared for. Over the years we have shared many memories especially during the holidays. Christmas time was incredibly special for our family. It was a time when we all came together and enjoyed wonderful dishes and loving time spent together. One thing was for certain, no matter what, all of us loved one another and we all loved Tommy. Tommy Lowe leaves to cherish his memory his dutiful and loving wife: Ellen Delores Lowe, Midlothian, VA; daughter, Elishia (April); granddaughter, Amani; brother Calvin; Sisters-in-laws; Brother-in-laws and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and special family and friends. Our dearest Tommy was a devoted and dedicated family man. In our hearts will always be the memory of seeing him having the enjoyment of coffee! All through the years coffee was his all-time favorite! Another all-time favorite of his was hot fried fish and corn bread with alga syrup. Let us not even mention the shining of his cars every Sunday and the grass getting cut and raked every time it was time for the lawn to be manicured! Our hearts are broken, but we thank God for his great life, and we pray now for his great rest! A service will be held noon, Wednesday, May 19, 2021 in the Mausoleum of Carver Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Eric Martin will deliver the message of comfort. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
