Thomas "Duke" Henry Lee Scott, 88, of Suffolk, Virginia, entered eternal rest on Thursday, May 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 25, 1936, to the late Gladys W. Warren and Thomas Scott of Enfield, North Carolina, Duke was raised in Holland, VA and attended Southwestern. He was the eldest of his siblings and carried the wisdom, strength, and humor of an older brother throughout his life.
Well-known around town, Duke had a presence you couldn’t miss—especially when he was riding his beloved bicycle, which he proudly pedaled until his health no longer allowed. He had a deep love for playing cards and was notorious for his witty banter and “trash talk.” In his words, “Everybody always wanted to whip me, but they weren't ready.” That spirited charm defined Duke and drew people to him wherever he went.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Thomas White; two brothers, Paul Scott Jr. and Rubin Warren, Jr.; and two sisters, Bernice Wiggins and Gladys “Puddin” Porter.
Duke leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Wiggins (Emmanuel); son, Quentin Harrell; three grandsons: Emmanuel Jr., Cornelius Wiggins, and Fasone Alexander; six great-grandchildren; brother, Elder Willie Lee Warren;six nieces; seven nephews; four great-nieces; seventeen great-great nephews; and two great-great nieces, all of whom he loved dearly.
He also cherished the deep friendships he built throughout his life, especially with Martha “Puddin” Johnson, Barbara Jean Blanchard, Frank and Anita Hamlin, Kent Saunders, Nick Ingram, Mr. W. Moore, and many others. He shared a special bond with his niece and caregiver, Rhonda, whose love and care brought him great comfort.
Duke was a man of strong spirit, warm heart, and generous soul. He never treated anyone differently—he loved everyone just the same.
He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025 at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
