Thomas "Chapstick" Oneal Chapman

March 18, 1962 — November 13, 2019

Thomas O. Chapman, 57, of Mt. Vernon Court Smithfield transitioned Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Riverside Health System. He was the son of Thomas Chapman and the late Gloria Juanita Chapman. Besides his mother he was preceded in death by his daughter Pebbles Chapman "Chapstick" joined the Army in 1984 and served faithfully for many years. After he was honorably discharged he joined the American Legion in Neptune, New Jersey and held many positions including being a member of the Color Guard. He attended Norfolk State University and in 2012 he joined the Newport News Shipbuilding as a sheet metal worker. He was a member of Sweet Haven Holy Church of God.  He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Cheryl Chapman of Smithfield, Va; two daughters, Precious Auston (Brian) of Chesapeake, VA, Dimples Chapman of Hampton, VA; step daughters, Lori Wilcox of Stratford, New Jersey and Monique Wilcox-Burke (Dorian) of Berlin, New Jersey;step son, James Brent of Cherry Hill, New Jersey; three sisters, Shelly Watkins (Keefe), Yolanda Williams (Bernard), and Lynell Chapman all of Suffolk; six brothers, Andrew Walker (Pauline) of Suffolk, VA, Gilbert Chapman of Citrus Heights, California, Timothy Chapman, Kelvin Chapman (Diane), Tyrone Chapman (Elmira), and Darnell Chapman of Suffolk, VA; six grandchildren, Brian Auston, Jr., Brandon Auston, Zuri Jackson, Dasia Smith, London Burke, and Brook Lynn Burke; aunts, Rosa Johnson, Judy Wiggins, Mearl Boone (Robert), and Georgette Thomas; great aunt, Eunice Willis; uncles, Nathaniel Walker(Linda), Bruce Jones (Shirley), Chris Darden, James Cowling; niece, nephews, cousins, and friends. A celebration of life will be held noon, Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Sweet haven Holy Church of God. Bishop Nathaniel Johnson will deliver the message of comfort. He will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
