Thomas "Poochie" Joyner

July 25, 1947 — February 6, 2021

Thomas "Poochie" Joyner, 73, of Elwood Rd, Suffolk, VA transitioned Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was born in Nansemond County of Suffolk to the late Dorothy Randall and Moses Thomas Joyner. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Frederick Wade Joyner. Thomas served in the United States Army and a Vietnam Veteran receiving the Bronze Star Medal. He attended Georgie Tyler High School and retired from Northrop Grumman Newport News Shipyard in 2006 after 39 years of faithful and dedicated service. He was a member of Little Mount Zion Baptist Church where he was a Trustee, Drove the church van, cut the church and cemetery grass. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Lillian Wilson-Joyner of Suffolk; daughter, Tonya P. Joyner-Anduhar; granddaughter, Basalisa R. Andujar; stepson, Warrenton S. Wilson of Suffolk; sisters, Lois J. Purdie and Patricia J. Wilson (Alton) both of Windosr, VA, Deildra Joyner of Newport News, VA, Sylvia J. James of Fredericksburg, VA and Patricia Washington (Maggie) of San Diego, CA; brothers, Moses T. Joyner, Sr. (Ann Marie) of Baltimore, MD, Theodore Joyner (Roberta), Floyd Joyner and Reginald Joyner all of Windsor, VA; step mother-in-law, Alice A. Manley of Suffolk; sisters-in-law, Naomi T. Davis, Lisa R. Joyner, Machelle Y Copeland, Inell Ricks, Hope Manley, Jewell Hoffler and Margaret Manley; brothers-in-law, George A. Copeland, Donnell E. Manley, Warren Manley and Brian Hoffler; favorite cousin, Elva Joyner; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A viewing will be held 1-7 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2021 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. A celebration of life will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Little Mount Zion Baptist Church, 3288 Pruden Blvd, Suffolk, VA 23434. Rev. Horace L. Bazemore will deliver the message of comfort. He will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Please adhere to the CDC guidelines.
