Thomas Foreman, Sr.

February 25, 1954 — August 7, 2018

Thomas Alexander Foreman, Sr. known to family and friends as "Junior”, “TJ” and “Fat Cat”, passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the age of 64. Four years after the doctors said six months, he lost his battle with prostate cancer, but was never defeated because he won the war when he gained his Wings to Glory. Thomas was born February 25, 1954, in Suffolk, Virginia. Shortly thereafter, his family relocated to Trenton, NJ. He attended school there, where he eventually graduated from Trenton Central High School. He accepted the Lord at a young age. When the family settled in Delaware, he attended Greater Faith Temple COGIC, Bridgeville, Delaware under the leadership of his father – the late Bishop E.T. Foreman. There he ministered in spoken words, deeds, and as a singer and musician. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and was a drummer of the U.S. Army Marching Band where he served until discharged and eventually earned a degree from Delaware Technical Community College. He was an active brother of the Sons of Solomon Masonic Lodge #220 in Trenton, New Jersey and worked for Trenton Municipal Court until he moved to Virginia to be closer to his sisters and their family. He never missed a beat in the things he loved. He picked up the mantle left by his parents and began to work faithfully within in his church as the organist at New Beginnings Outreach Center, Newport News, Virginia. He also assisted his loving cousin the late Rev. Dr. Maurice Reid Scott at Word for Living Full Gospel Fellowship Center, Inc. of Suffolk, VA, where he preached the Word and ministered in song and music. He enjoyed cooking but his first love was music. He played the drums, keyboard and bass guitar but people remember him most from his sultry voice that was a combination of Luther Vandross, Gerald Levert and Rance Allen. He was known to sing many songs, but he would sing his favorites – “I Won’t Complain”, “Walk around Heaven” and “When I See Jesus – Amen”. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Mother Bernice Reid Foreman and Bishop E. T. Foreman. He is survived by his two sisters Vernest (Lester) Rice of Hampton, VA and Joy (La’Anta) Watford, of Atlanta, GA, four children Toby Rayford Foreman (Providence, RI), Thomas (Davona) Foreman Jr., (Wilmington, DE), Antonio Foreman (Seaford, DE), and Elijah Foreman (Trenton, NJ), and 9 grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memories: his step-mother Leatha Gregory-Foreman (Seaford, DE); his step-brother, Antoine Gregory (Wilmington, DE); his foster brother James “Butch” Styles; his confidant, first cousin and best friend Lawrence “Larry” Foreman (Trenton, NJ); and, Herman Sewell, also a best friend. Additionally, Thomas leaves to hold dear his memory, his special friend Deborah Willis, his adoptive daughter Selina (Joseph) Bagley, and his stepson Terryan Nichols. Finally, Thomas’ other siblings who he leaves to treasure his memory includes: Helen Foreman, Veronica Foreman, Joseph, Keith, Michael and Stanley Foreman, who preceded him in death. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other family members and friends complete his circle of loved ones. The family would like to thank our church family – New Beginnings Outreach Center Church of God in Christ for their love and support during our time of grief. A special, sincere thank you goes out to the professional staff at Intrepid Hospice and Personal Touch Home Care for their guidance, devotion and commitment in providing the best possible care for Thomas and the family in their time of need.    A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 17 2018 at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
