On February 17, 2026, Thelma Louise Spruill departed this life at her place of residence, The East Pavilion Nursing Home, Franklin, VA. Thelma Louise Spruill was a native of Suffolk, VA, born on December 12, 1941, in Ahoskie, NC, to the late James A. Futrell and Sally Ann Futrell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie C. Spruill Sr., a brother, James A. Futrell Jr., two sisters, Mable Futrell, Clarine Futrell, three sons, Tony, Donald, Johnny (June), a daughter, Bernice, and two grandsons, Bennie Wood III and Rufus (Scooter)Artis.
Louise loved her husband, children, and family. She was a home body person who loved cooking and having family and friends come over for cook outs and family gatherings. We are truly going to miss our mom.
Thelma Louise Spruill leaves behind to cherish her memories her two daughters, Mable Goodwin (Clifton) of Windsor VA., Betty Jones (Shelly Lee) of Holland, VA., three sons Leon Spruill (Apostle Dr. Tonya Spruill) of Elizabeth City, NC., Raymond Spruill of Suffolk, John Spruill (Malinda) of Portsmouth, VA., one brother Jessie Futrell (Mary Louise) of Ahoskie NC., Ethel Futrell and Jackie Futrell who was raised as her brother and sister, one sister-in-law Bernice Mumford of Hookerton NC., and a host of grandchildren, great grand, and great, great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She also leaves to cherish her memories, Louise Douglas, her best friend for many years, Linda Wiggins, a devoted friend, and Shironica Hamlin, who was very dedicated to her grandmother and always there for her.
A public viewing will be held from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Crocker Funeral Home. Ms. Spruill will be laid to rest at Southview Cemetery, Franklin, VA. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
