Stanley Darnell Pittman, 57, of Suffolk, Virginia passed away peacefully at VCU MCV Health, 1211 E. Marshall Street, Richmond, Virginia on April 1, 2020 He was born in Nansemond County, Suffolk, VA and the youngest child of Gladys W. Pittman and the late David Eugene Pittman, Sr. Stanley was joined in holy matrimony to Vicki C. Wiggins on June 11, 1994 at Canaan Baptist Church, Suffolk, VA Stanley was a 1980 graduate of John Yeates High School where he was an avid athlete in football, basketball, and track. He was awarded a four year athletic scholarship to attend Norfolk State University where he played football for the “Behold the Green and Gold Mighty Spartans”. Stanley was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with concentration in Recreation awarded in 1985. Stanley retired from Western Tidewater Regional Jail after serving 26 years as a Unit Manager. He formed friendships that lasted many years; especially those who loved Dallas Cowboys and the groove of old school jazz music. Stanley joined church at an early age and was baptized at Diamond Grove Baptist Church in the “Sandy Bottoms” community of Suffolk. Upon marriage, he later moved his membership to First Baptist Mahan Church and became a diligent steward with the Trustee Ministry, The Brotherhood Ministry, Budget and Finance Ministries, 112 Mahan Leadership Ministry and the Security Ministry. He loved his church dearly and enjoyed every aspect of working in whatever capacity service was needed. He loved working in the community and served faithfully as a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. He was initiated into the fraternity March 14, 1992 through Lambda Nu Chapter, Franklin, VA and later transferred to Alpha Iota Chapter, Suffolk where he served as Past Basileus, Past Vice Basileus, Social Action Chair and Chaplain. He was always committed to the work of the fraternity and its principles of exemplifying quality public service. He was served as a Past Vice President to the Nansemond Suffolk Unit – NAACP. Stanley was a Connecting Link in accompanied to his wife through Suffolk Chapter (VA), The LINKS, Incorporated. He is survived by his beloved wife, Vicki, darling mother, Gladys W. Pittman, Suffolk, VA, brother, David E. Pittman, Jr. (Gwen), Accokeek, MD; sister, Rita Howard, Syracuse, NY; one nephew, David E. Pittman, III, Accokeek, MD, two nieces, Dominique Pittman, Accokeek, MD, Jamille Howard, Boca Raton, FL; great niece, London Pittman, Accokeek, MD, paternal aunt, Medicia Pittman Wright, Suffolk, VA, two brothers in-law, Wilbert Wiggins (Karen), Suffolk, VA, Bill Johnson ( Vivian), Chesapeake, VA, sister in-law, Shirley C. Little, Newport News, VA, Surrogate daughter/ niece, Joy N. Wiggins, Suffolk, VA, Godchildren, Olivia Forman Thomas, Camille Foreman, Keion Roberts, Brandon L. Roberts, Larone Eason, and Da’lante Diggs and a host of cousins, in-laws relatives and close friends. The family takes comfort in words from one his favorite scriptures: Isaiah 40:31-32:.They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as Eagles, they shall run and not grow weary, they shall walk and not faint.
