Shirley Ann Sykes Spruell

Shirley Ann Sykes Spruell passed peacefully on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Autumn Care Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Suffolk, Virginia. She earned her eternal wings and is now resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.
Shirley was born in Wilmington, Delaware on September 6, 1938 to Mr. and Mrs. Eddie and Emma Foreman. She attended Suffolk Public Schools and at a later date earned her GED. Shirley loved people of all ages and was a gifted caregiver. She completed the required training and spent her years of employment laboring in the medical field. She retired as a medical technician from the Manhattan Veterans Administration Hospital in Manhattan, New York.
She was a people person and had a special zeal for life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and creating special memories. Additionally, Shirley enjoyed traveling and attending plays in various cities, and cooking delicious foods that could be
enjoyed by all.
Several family members shared the following treasured memories of Shirley ~Her only son Michael shared this precious memory, “Momma always made sure that I knew that she loved me!”
Her sister Margaret described her dear sister Shirley as being loving, caring, and very concerned about her family and friends.
Her brother James will fondly remember his sister Shirley as lovable and trustworthy.
Shirley is predeceased by her husband William H. Spruill and son Herbert F. Spruill. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her son, Mr. Michael A. Spruill, her stepson, Mr. Joseph Smith (Cathy), her sisters, Ms. Delores Deloatch and Mrs. Margaret Evans (James), her brother, Mr. James E. Foreman (Theola), and her sister- in-law, Deacon Sarah S. Sweatt, her step-grandsons and granddaughters, a host of nieces, and other relatives, and friends.
A viewing will be held 2-7p.m. Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. A celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Albert G. Horton Veteran Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
