“We will not fall asleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed."

I Corinthians 15:51-52

Shirley Marie Clay Little, 80, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away into eternity at Marcella Post-Acute, 305 Marcella Road, Hampton, Virginia on February 4, 2026. She was born in Pasquotank County, NC and was the daughter of the late Willie Clay and Vivian Elizabeth Owen Wiggins and Wilber Wiggins, Sr. She was predeceased in death by her parents and one brother, Wilbert Wiggins, Jr. She received her formal education in Suffolk Public School (East Suffolk High School – Class of 1964) as attended Norfolk State College (currently known as Norfolk State University) and matriculated in Business Administration at Thomas Nelson Community College (currently known as Virginia Peninsula Community College) and awarded an Administration Associate Degree in Business Administration and Management. Shirley retired from Fort Eustis with 21 service years as a Computer Analyst and later sought additional employment as a Teacher Assistant with Newport News Public School System which she later retired with 16 years of service.

Shirley was baptized under J.R.R McRay, Corner Stone Baptist Church in Elizabeth City, NC; however, upon relocating to Suffolk at an early age found Christian connectivity with Canaan Baptist Church under Rev. Dr. Samuel H. Lathan during her formative years. Keeping her faith and dedicated Christian connectivity during life’s journey, sought membership with the amazing church family of Colossian Baptist Church in Newport News under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Peter A. Evans, Senior Pastor. Anyone who knew Shirley could attest she had a quiet spirit and an old soul who paced herself with attributes of calmness, reserved and resilience. She also had deep rooted love for reading, listening to a variety of music from gospel, jazz, old school R&B, attending concerts, and special events with family and friends.

She is survived by her two siblings, Vicki C. Wiggins-Pittman, Suffolk, VA; Bill Johnson (Vivian), Elizabeth City, NC; two nieces, Joy Wiggins and Keisha Johnson; two nephews, Chris Johnson and Carl Johnson; sister-in-law, Karen T. Wiggins; and a host of cousins, extended family, and wonderful friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, 900 E. Washington Street, Suffolk, VA 23434. Visitation will begin Friday, February 27, 2026, at Crocker Funeral home beginning at 2:00 PM- 5:00 PM.
