Shirley Mae Scott Blizzard was born on November 13, 1941, to Rosa Lee Hill and Thomas Scott in Nansemond County, Virginia. A beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Shirley devoted her life to her family and her community.
She found love and companionship with her husband, Marshall Blizzard, and together they had six children: Gwendolyn, Sharon, Marshall, Monica, Helen, and Dwight. Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved children Helen and Dwight, whose memories she carried close to her heart.
With a strong desire to create a better life for her family, Shirley relocated to New York to pursue a higher education. She attended Lehman College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She went on to have a fulfilling career in social work, becoming a supervisor for child services in the Bronx, N.Y., where her dedication for helping others left a lasting impact.
Shirley’s warmth, determination, and love will be remembered by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all those whose lives she touched.
A celebration of life will be held 2:00pm, Thursday, November 7, 2024 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
