Shawn's earthly journey began on June 09, 1983, when he was born to Laverne N Boykins and step father Thomas Boykins of Sufolk,Virginia. Shawn attended Lakeland High School and graduated in 2001. He went on to serve 24 years in the United States Navy and retired in September 2025.

Shawn lived a life marked by quiet strength, humility, and a gentle spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew him. Shawn loved being around his family,cooking,watching football (Dallas Cowboys) and his spirituality. His warm presence, work ethic, and consistency endeared him throughout his military journey.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother Marjorie Newsome and grandfather Cary Newsome Jr.

Shawn’s legacy continues through the many lives he touched, beginning with his mother Laverne Boykins and step father Thomas Boykins who stood faithfully by him.

He leaves to cherish his memory his precious baby girl Ja’Nae Newsome, step son Tyrone Jiles.And long time friend Jasmine Davis.

He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Micha Savage (Barabus) and Krystle Harris (Charles). Continuing giving out lovehe leaves two aunts Wanda Newby(Calvin), Brenda Atkins and one uncle Carey Newsome (Keisha). Four nieces, three nephews, three great nieces, one great nephew and a host of cousins, friends, and fellow shipmates.

Shawn will be sincerely missed by all who were blessed to share in his life. Though he is no longer with us physically, the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the kindness he displayed will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

*May he rest in the loving arms of the Lord, where there is no more pain, only PEACE.*

A public viewing will be held 3-6pm, Tuesday, May 26, 2026 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held 1:00pm, Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Greater First Baptist Church Orlando. Mr. Newsome will have a private interment at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family has entrusted Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. with professional services rendered with dignity, compassion and care.
