Sclester Uzzle Jr. (affectionately known as “Ice”) transitioned from this earthly life on Friday, June 21, 2024. He was born on June 7, 1962 in Suffolk, Virginia to Lucy White Uzzle and the late Sclester Uzzle, Sr.
Sclester graduated from Windsor High School in 1980. He loved sports and was an avid softball player for the QVC team. He was a die hard Washington Commanders fan and the L.A. Lakers was his favorite basketball team. He loved celebrating with his family and you always saw him with a cup of coffee in his hands.
Sclester worked at Newport News Shipyard and Smithfield Packing. He was currently employed at Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he was the Rigging Supervisor. He was a hard worker and had excellent work ethic. His co-workers referred to him as “Unc”and “Big Dog”. He influenced many younger co-workers by mentoring them and encouraging them to have good work ethic.
Sclester joined Holly Grove A.M.E. church at an early age and sung in the Young Adult Choir. When he married, he attended Macedonia A.M.E church with his wife.
On January 25, 1990, Sclester was joined in holy matrimony with Candy Brown and with this union he gained three sons, Rashard, Jermain and LC. Sclester and Candy were happily married for 34 years.
Sclester was preceded in death by his father Sclester Uzzle, Sr., his mother-in-law Verjena Gaynor, and his brother-in-law LeVon Jones. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 34 years, Candy Uzzle; three sons, Rashard (Christian) Leary of Suffolk, Virginia, Jermain (Nakita) Brown of Petersburg, Virginia, and Charlie (LC) Stevenson, II of Suffolk, Virginia; his mother, Lucy White Uzzle Gray (George) of Windsor, Virginia, two brothers, James Gray (Glenda) of Windsor, Virginia, Chris Uzzle (Ivy) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two sisters Valerie Nichols (Arthur) of Windsor, Virginia, Rhonda Davis (Jesse) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 4 sister-in-laws Tiffany, Kay and LaFonda Jones and Judith Brown; two brother-in-laws Leon Jones and Khalil Moses; six aunts, 1 uncle, seven grandchildren, a great grandson, a great granddaughter, two Godsons and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2024 at St. Paul's Baptist Church, 806 Lincoln Avenue, Suffolk, Virginia 23434. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
