Schlonda Dupre' Chavers-Wiggins "Bunny"

On the evening of July 13, 2026, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, God called home a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, cousin, and friend after a courageous and lengthy battle with illness. Though her earthly journey has ended, her legacy of love, compassion, faith, and unwavering strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Schlonda Dupre' Chavers-Wiggins, affectionately known as "Bunny," was born on March 27, 1970, at Hampton General Hospital to Carrie Saunders and Donald Chavers. Because she was born on Good Friday, she was lovingly given the nickname "Bunny," a name that remained with her throughout her life. From an early age, Bunny's radiant smile, playful spirit, and kind heart brought joy to everyone she encountered.

At the age of ten, Bunny accepted Christ and joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Holland, Virginia, where her faith continued to grow throughout her life. She attended Suffolk Public Schools and graduated from Forest Glen High School in 1988. Pursuing her lifelong passion for caring for others, she attended Louise Obici School of Nursing before earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hampton University.

Nursing was more than a profession for Bunny; it was her calling. Her compassionate spirit, gentle nature, and genuine concern for others made her an exceptional nurse. During her remarkable 32-year nursing career, she faithfully served in several specialties, including Case Management, Interventional Radiology as a Nurse Circulator, and Lung Navigation. She cared for every patient with dignity, kindness, and respect, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.

In 2001, Bunny experienced one of life's greatest blessings with the birth of her beloved daughter, Naleah Marianna. Becoming a mother fulfilled one of her deepest dreams, and the bond they shared was extraordinary. Whether they were laughing together, watching television, trying new recipes in the kitchen, or simply enjoying each other's company, their love for one another was evident to everyone around them.

In 2008, Bunny welcomed another special blessing into her heart when her nephew, Christian, was born. Affectionately known as "her boy," Christian held a very special place in her life. Their relationship was filled with unconditional love, laughter, cherished conversations, and many peaceful afternoon naps.

Although Bunny faced significant health challenges due to complications from Lupus, she never allowed her illness to define her. While the disease limited her physically, it never diminished her faith, her optimism, or her determination. Through every obstacle, she remained steadfast, praising God and inspiring those around her with her remarkable courage and quiet strength. She rarely complained, choosing instead to face each day with grace, dignity, and unwavering faith.

On October 18, 2025, Bunny married the love of her life, Mark Wiggins, in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by family and friends. She often shared that Mark "made her life complete," and the joy she felt on their wedding day was unmistakable. She was radiant with happiness, overflowing with love, and every person in attendance witnessed the deep affection they shared. It was a day filled with beauty, celebration, and the promise of a lifetime together.

Bunny possessed an incredible creative spirit. She found joy in drawing, painting, making handmade cards, baking beautiful cakes, and singing. She faithfully served as a member of the Mt. Sinai Inspirational Choir and the Holland New Birth Community Choir. Blessed with a beautiful, soulful voice, she could move a congregation to its feet with heartfelt renditions of songs such as "Long as I Got King Jesus" and "Higher Ground." Whether through music, art, or baking, Bunny had a special gift for bringing joy, comfort, and love to those around her.

Above all else, Bunny will be remembered for her unwavering faith, compassionate heart, infectious smile, gentle spirit, and the love she so freely gave. She lived a life marked by service, resilience, creativity, and devotion to God and family. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted husband, Mark Wiggins; her beloved daughter, Naleah Marianna; her loving mother, Carrie Wiggins-Faulk (Harold); her devoted sister, Kara Wiggins, her bonus brother, Dimitrius Faulk(Kim); her beloved nephew, Christian Wiggins, her aunts Audrey Coppedge (George), Katheryn Starks (Robert), Carolyn Scott, Joyce Chavers, her uncle Ronald Chavers (Gillian), her fur-babies Luna Pistachio and Cuddles, and a host of loving cousins, cherished sister-friends, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her love.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Chavers; her grandparents, George and Nellie Saunders; her bonus father, Willie V. Wiggins; and her bonus sister, Deidre' Davis.

A celebration of life will be held noon, Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 6100 Holy Neck Road, Suffolk, Virginia 23437. Rev. William L. Lang and Rev. Olvia Lang will deliver the message of comfort. The family has entrusted Crocker Funeral Home with services rendered with dignity, compassion, and care.
