Sarah Chestina Virginia Jones Lawrence

                    Sarah Chestina Virginia Jones Lawrence, 84 of Suffolk, Virginia was born April 27, 1933 to the late Lee Austin and Lillie Mae Brodie Jones.  She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh B. Lawrence; three siblings Kemper Lee Jones, Ursula J. Picot, and Geneva J. Walton.             Sarah graduated from Isle of Wight Training School and attended Norfolk State University.  She was employed as a Purchasing Agent at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1993.             Sarah joined Chapel Grove U.C.C. at an early age and held membership in the Senior Choir, Women’s Fellowship, and The Golden Age Ministry.  Other organizational memberships were: Eastern Star, American Business Women Association and Imperial Crescent Club. She was Co-owner and operator of the United Taxi Service and Lawrence Grocery.             She leaves to cherish her memory five children: Paquita L. Hunter (Benford) of Suffolk, VA, Shelia L. Griffin (Dwight) of Portsmouth, VA, Danny Lawrence of Lawrenceville, VA, Elton Mabrey (Denise) of Hopewell, VA, and Gregory Holland of Newport News, VA.  Two sisters, Regenia J. Lawrence and Bernice J. Bolling (Randolph); one brother James C. Brodie (Barbara).aunts, LeeAther Stokes and Mae Curtis Brodie. Six grandchildren, Sabrina Jones, Benford J. Hunter, Sr. (Chelsea), Yolanda M. Brown (Terrence), Toya Mabrey, Crystal Holland, and Janice Parker; eleven great grandchildren, Tiyani Hunter, Benford J. Hunter, Jr., Aryanna Jones, Elonte Jones, George Allen, Avery Brown, Caleb Harris, Laila Watkins, Janyah Dildy, Jaden Williams, and Mya Miller; two god-daughters, Peggy Byrd and Odessa Peoples;  special sister/cousin Virginia M. Booker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.            A celebration of life will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2018 at Chapel Grove United Church of Christ, 7366 West Blackwater Road, Windsor, Virginia 23487.
