"I can do all things through Christ which Strengthens Me" In the quietness of the early morning of May 11, God sent an angel to welcome our mother Sarah Hamlin to her heavenly home. At an early age she accepted Christ. she became a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church. She sang in the choir and did many fund raisers for the church. She was a Pastor's Aide member. On April 13, 1958 she was married to her sweetheart the late Robert Lee Hamlin, Sr. To that union six children were born. From that generation she was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was a woman that loved to sew, took piano lessons and to do jigsaw puzzles. She also received her GED later in life. She worked at Saint Regis Paper Company and Subway to support her family. Sarah embraced her family with loving arms and freely expressed her abiding affection for family and friends. Sarah is preceded in death by her husband Robert Lee Hamlin. Both parents Reuben and Gertrude Murphy. Her siblings: Jannie Artis, Anzella Murphy, George Murphy, Rueben, Jr; her brothers-in-law, Emmett V. Artis, Sr and Lessly Artis; one sister-in-law, Hazel Vaughan. Left to cherish her memory, two daughters, Jeanett Reid and Diane Hamlin; four sons, Robert, Jr., Clarence, James, and Curtis Hamlin; her beloved sister, Nancy Brown; nine sisters-in-law, Mable Grayson, Shirley Chatman (Julius), Sarah Haskins, Bessie Lawrence (Robert), Mary Whidbee (Curtis), Francine Peeplels (James), Patricia Johnson, Juanita Artis, and Yasmin Moody; she was loved by her 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends; one special friend, Mr. Charles Cole. A celebration of life will be held noon, Friday, May 15, 2020 at New Olive Branch Baptist Church, 9364 Gates Road, Suffolk, VA 23437. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
