Sarah Lee Eason, as some of us may have known her as Sarah Artis Barnes, was born on March 5, 1958, to Alphonso Sr. and Mary Barnes in Southampton County, Virginia.

Sarah attended Southampton County Schools until she moved to Suffolk, Virginia, and continued her education with Suffolk Public Schools.

Sarah met the late John Eason when they were children. They later married August 24, 1984. Out of their union, they had a son, Elijah.

Sarah served as a deaconess and community choir member at St. Matthews House of Refuge.

As a young adult, Sarah worked at Burger King for many years in Suffolk, Virginia.

Sarah is survived by her son Elijah, brothers James Alphonso Jr, Michael, Timothy, and Dennis. Sisters: Hattie, Martha, Clarine, Phyllis, and Alice. She was preceded in death by her husband John Eason, parents Alphoso and Mary Barnes, sister Irene Eason, and brother Robert. She has a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.

A viewing will be held 2-5 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m Friday, July 31, 2026, at Rose of Sharon United Holy Church, 2446 Nanosecond Pkwy, Suffolk, Virginia 23434. She will be laid to rest in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family has entrusted Crocker Funeral Home with services rendered with dignity, compassion, and care.
