The Angel of the Lord came to give our beloved father, son,and brother ultimate peace on September 11, 2019. Although our hearts are saddened by his passing, we know that our God doesn't make mistakes. Samuel Lee Montgomery, Jr. also known as Sammie Lee Montgomery, Jr., was born on October 17, 1970 in Suffolk, VA as a twin to his beloved parents, Emma Frances Montgomery and Samuel Lee Montgomery, Sr. He attended Suffolk Public Schools, including John F. Kennedy High School where he was a member of the football team. Upon moving from Suffolk, VA., Sammie resided in Emporia, VA., and more recently lived in Richmond, VA. Before enduring some recent health challenges, "Sam" as he was affectionately called by some, was employed at Lowe's Distribution Center, (Garysburg, NC); Jones Electric (Emporia, VA) and as a maintenance worker with Green's Landscaping Service in Richmond. Sam understood the need to cultivate and develop a relationship with the Lord. He would attend church with his parents as a young child at New Mt. Joy COGIC (now New Mt. Joy FFLM) under the late Bishop W. P. Wiggins. Sam, later was baptized and became a member of Salem Baptist Church in Emporia, VA under the leadership of their former pastor, Bishop William Richardson, Sr. Sam wanted to learn more about God and was actively involved in the ministries of Salem during that time. He was a member of the Pastoral Installation Committee, The Men's Fellowship Ministry, The Pastor's Aide Ministry and attended Wednesday night Bible Study. Sam also loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with his son, Jamari, whom he loved unconditionally. His mother and sibling were always on his heart and enjoyed family gatherings, dinners, and holidays. He live life to the fullest. He enjoyed making people smile, laugh and his presence will be missed by all the at knew him. He was predeceased in death by his father-Samuel Lee Montgomery Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Jamari Lee Montgomery of Emporia, VA. His beloved mother, Emma Frances Montgomery of Suffolk; six sisters, Kathy Montgomery, Michell Montgomery, his twin sister-Sandy Montgomery, Vera Bond (Fred), Terri Montgomery, and Vickie Holiday (Larry) and his only brother, James Frances. A very devoted friend/Jamari's mother-Regina Staples of Emporia; four aunts, Mary Lee Chapman, Willie Mae Artis, Carrie Montgomery, and Alice Mitchell; three uncles, Eddie Lee Montgomery, Randolph Mitchell, and Frederick Eley, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friends, Fred & Susie Green of Richmond, VA.; Lorraine Montgomery of Suffolk, Va,; and countless other friends in Emporia, Suffolk, and Richmond, VA. A celebration of life will be held noon, Friday, September 20, 2019 at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries. He will be laid to rest in the C.W.Ash section of Carver Memorial Cemetery.
