Ruth Esther Hill

January 2, 1947 — February 19, 2020

Ruth Esther Hill, 73, of Clary's Drive, Suffolk, Virginia transitioned Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Mamie Corbett Wilkins and Maryland Wilkins, Sr. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd A. Hill, son Lloyd Hill, III, brother, Willie Wilkins, Sr, aunt, Alice Myrick, nephews, Joseph Wilkins and Mario Wilkins, sister, Audrey Vaughan; granddaughter, Baby Tyteyana Hill. She attended Suffolk public schools and worked for Harris and Jabot Tomato Company in Cambridge, MD-Summer work from 1965-1967; Day Company-Suffolk in 1967-1971; and childcare services for 1972-Present. Ruth attended Sixth Street Baptist in Suffolk as a child and later attended Allen Temple and St. Timothy Baptist Church. She became a member of the General Assembly and would later become part of Rising St. James P.H.C.where she was a member of the Jr. Choir and Gospel Chorus. She eventually joined Total Transformation House of Praise until her health failed. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Lisa R. Penn (Anthony), Minister Tracy R. Hill, and Tina L. Hill of Suffolk; son, Michael S. Hill of Suffolk; two sisters, Rose M. Carr (Milton) and Joyce Wilkins; two brothers, Maryland Wilkins, Jr. (Gloria) and Robert C. Wilkins (Celestine); seven sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wilkins Woodley, Barbara Jean Wilkins, Catherine Wilkins, Gloria Hunt, Ethel Savage (James), Jo Lorraine Mason (Abel) and Paula Majette (Gerald); one brother-in-law, Paul Hill; special grandson, Aaron Green; special cousin, Jeffery Myrick; 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Rising St. James P.H.C. 201 N. Sixth Street, Suffolk, VA. Elder Glendell P. Whitfield.
