On Friday, April 11, 2025, our heavenly Father called His daughter, Ruth Blizzad home to eternal rest. Ruth was born November 15, 1937 to the late Benjamin and Eldora Vann Myrick in Hertford County, North Carolina (NC). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Alease Beale and Helen Myrick, brothers, Robert, Fred, David and Clarence Myrick.
Ruth, “BaeWee” as she was affectionately known, was educated in the Nansemond County Public School System in Suffolk, Virginia. At an early age, Ruth gave her life to the Lord and joined Mill Neck Baptist Church in Como, North Carolina. She found comfort in prayer, strength in scripture, and peace in the promise of eternal life. She continued her christian walk when she joined Mount Sinai Baptist Church where she became an active participant of the Willing Worker’s ministry until her health failed.
In 1959, Ruth married the love of her life, Alexander Blizzard Jr., who had been drafted in the United States Army. Together they traveled the country living in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Fort Lewis, Washington, Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Wainwright, Alaska and Fort Eustis, Virginia. Ruth loved being a military spouse, participating in numerous memberships. She faithfully served as an active member of the Non-Commissioned Officer Wives Club where she specialized in coordinating events for the children of military families. When they returned home to Suffolk, she became an active member of the Disabled American Veteran’s Auxiliary.
Taking care of children was Ruth’s passion. She loved children and cared for many in the military community, the Holland community as well as her own family. Her home was a haven of warmth, love and laughter. She was an advid sports fan, loving the Philadelphia Eagles, favorite quarterback, Donavan McNabb. Not to mention basketball superstar, Steph Curry. Her life can be characheterized by Faith, Family, Friends, Food and Fun. She embraced them all on the first Saturday of July for twenty-five years where she and her husband Sonny hosted the annual Family and Friends Day Fellowship at their home.
