Ruth Beatrice Hamblin Johnson

December 13, 1926 — June 9, 2022

Ruth Beatrice Hamblin Johnson, a native of Suffolk, VA and a resident of Bettie Davis Senior/Disabled Apartments walked around earth until she entered eternal rest on June 9, 2022. Ruth Beatrice Johnson was born on December 13, 1926 the daughter of the late Jake Hamblin and Laura Estelle Banks Hamblin, now she's walking around Heaven all day. She could only be there because she gave her life to Christ and was baptized at an early age and believed in a higher power. So today she can walk around Heaven and look for them. Ruth Beatrice Hamblin was married to the late Edward Johnson and to this union three children were born. She had a strong belief in family helping each other. She was devoted to her family so she adopted her last daughter when this daughter was only three years old. And she felt the same way with her community "I don't have much, but I can feed you, don't do wrong I will try and help you the best I know how." She always offered a word of wisdom or advice through her life of experiences. She loved to socialize and have a good time especially playing bingo with her friends (the Bingo Queen). She loved dancing to any Temptations song. Because of her strong belief in helping family and her community making someone smile or day; she can walk around Heaven all day. Ruth B. Johnson attended Little Mt. Zion Primary School but she received an honorary degree in Family Unity from the Boston Community, Family and Friends School of Hard Knocks. She had a love for people and she was a pillar of her community who all knew she was a walker but also a good cook and cleaner. She was employed as a Domestic Engineer, where she retired on disability; an early in her life employed by Peanut City Inn and Suffolk Peanut Company. At the age of fourteen, Ruth Beatrice Hamblin Johnson's parents were deceased leaving seven other siblings who also preceded her in death, three sisters, Marjorie Warren (Melvin), whom she raised at the age of ten, Mary Hamblin, and Elizabeth Williams (Fred); five brothers, Joe Hamblin, Roy Hamblin, Willie Hamblin, Jake Hamblin, and Junie Hamblin. She was the last of nine children born from the union to get the chance to walk around Heaven all day. Ms. Ruth leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Betty A. Pope (William -preceded her in death), of Suffolk, VA, Edith Marree Mablin (Saul-preceded her in death) of Garner, NC, and Teresa Johnson of Suffolk, VA; one son, Wilbert J. Johnson (Patricia) of Suffolk, VA; fifteen grandchildren, one of which became her caregiver, Faye L. Kee (Bernard); two preceded her in death, Thomas M. Johnson and Kenneth Roberts, twenty-two great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. A celebration of life will be held 1:00pm, Friday, June 17, 2022 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. Ms. Johnson will be laid to rest at Little Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
