Rosa Smith

Mrs. Rosa "Ma Rosa" Smith was born November 6, 1927 in Cypress Chapel, VA passed away peacefully into her father's arms early in the morning of April 26, 2020. Ma Rosa was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Rosa Steverson. She was predeceased by her husband Lemuel Greene, brothers, James, Lloyde Jr., Charlie, and Wilbur Lee Steverson; sisters, Dorothy Freeman, Alice Skeeter, and Josephine Daughtry. Ma Rosa attended Ole East Suffolk High School and obtained a nurse's certification from P.D. Pruden Vocational-Technical Center. She was employed with Autumn Care of Suffolk, VA. For 40 years and a volunteer aid for Louise Obici Hospital. She was a builder helper and former member of the New First Baptist Hosier Road under the leadership of her son, Dr. Lemuel Greene until her health failed and became an honorary member of New Calvary. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Dr. Lemuel Greene (Judith), adopted son, Clyde Edmond (Mary); daughters, Lois Slaughter (Charles), Bettie Smith (James); brothers, John Henry, Lewis Steverson (Mary); 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
