On Sunday, January 19, 2020, the Lord called our beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle and nephew to be with him. Roget Hargrave was born on August 30, 1941 to the late Roger and Sarah Sprately Hargrave in Ivor, Virginia. He attended the Public Schools of Southampton County. At an early age, Roger joined New Branch Baptist Church Ivor, Virginia, where he remained a member until joining the U.S. Army in May 1964. After serving for two years in the Arm Force, he relocated to New York where he found employment at Roosevelt St. Luke Hospital. Roger returned back to his roots in Virginia and became a devoted member of Tabernacle First Full Gospel Baptist Church, Zuni, Virginia under the leadership of Bishop Nathaniel Gomillion, where he served on the Single Ministry, Evangelist Ministry, Men's Ministry, Pulpit Aid for Pastor and Lead Servant of Usher Ministry. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Carrie Ruffin,and one brother, Linwood Brown. He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Shawanda Gwaltney (Karl) of Ivor, VA; two sisters, Mary Blizzard of Portsmouth and Jeanette Binns of Ivor, VA; one brother, George Binns (Annette) of Windsor, VA; two grandsons, Derrick Gwaltney (Ashley) of Smithfield, VA and Karvin Gwaltney of Newport News VA; one aunt, Gladys Ruffin of Greenbelt, MD; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; one godson, Ronald Cary f Suffolk, VA; and two devoted friends, Leon Smith of Franklin, VA and Junius Carroll of Windsor, VA. A celebration of life will be held noon, Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at New Branch Baptist Church, 8140 Proctors Bridge Road, Ivor, VA 23866. He will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
