Robert E. Townsell, Sr.

Robert E.Townsell, Sr., 78, of Suffolk, Virginia passed away in his home on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 after a battle with cancer. He was the youngest son born to the late Roy Townsend Sr., and Dorothy Townsend. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Walter, Roy Lee and Earl Townsend; four sisters, Elizabeth Townsend, Launia Tynes, Dorothy Shirley Walker and Ethel Pierce. He was a retired welder and member of the Tiger Team at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia for many years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, Deacon Board Chairperson, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and Scholar, Wednesday night Bible Study, Choir Member and an outstanding handyman at the church for many years. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Margaret Townsell; his children, Robert Townsell, Jr., (Lindsay) of Kansas City, Missouri, Travis Townsell of Suffolk, VA and Doren Hall of New Hampshire; three grandchildren, Brandon Townsell of Kansas City, MO., Trent Hall of Baltimore and Suraiya Townsell of Kansas City, MO.; one great grandchild, Brendon Gibson; two sisters, Annie Mann and Deloris Goodwin; a Godson, Anthony Foster; two sisters-in-law, Queenie Townsend and Robin Whitehead; two brothers-in-law, William Pierce and Anthony Archer (Barbara) and a host of family members and friends. A public viewing will be held 5-7pm, Friday, August 12, 2022 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. The celebration of life will be held noon, August 13, 2022 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 8300 Crittenden Road, Suffolk, Virginia. Face Mask are required at the home as well as the funeral.
