Robert Lee Artis, aged 68, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Helene Artis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Warren and Mary Magdalene Barnes.
He retired from Newport News Shipyard after 45 years’ service. If he was not working, he was working on somebody’s car or lawn mower.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Glenda Wallace and Robin Artis; two stepdaughters Eunice Borden and Dana Harrold; two stepsons Daniel Whitehead and Clifton Dent; seven sisters, Hattie Ricks, Martha Greene, Clarine Holly, Sarah Eason, Irene Eason, Alice Riddick, and Phyllis Waters; five brothers James Artis, Alphonso Barnes Jr, Michael Barnes, Timothy Barnes, and Denis Barnes, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, and friends.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
