Richard "Pretty Ricky" Cofield

Richard "Pretty Ricky" Cofield, 68, entered into eternal rest with is heavenly father on May 5, 2022 at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Virginia. He was born in Nansemond County to the late Clinton L. Cofield, Sr. and Sallie Cofield. He was predeceased in death by his father Clinton L. Cofield, SR., his mother, Sallie Cofield, sister, Carolyn J. Cofield, brothers, Clinton L. Cofield, Jr., William Walker, uncles, Robert Cofield, George Cofield, aunts Mildred and and Lucy B. Patterson, niece Shalonda Cofield. He attended Suffolk Public Schools and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1971. He went to Saint Paul College and graduated in 1975. He then joined the Army. He was last employed at Smithfield Packing Company in Smithfield. He was very athletic in baseball which he played with Mr. Chips and Coca-Cola baseball men league. He was a very good basketball player, he led the Wolverines to Forty Four wins during the season. He loved to shoot pool. Ricky was a stylish man. He dressed to kill whenever he stepped out. One thing I can say about him everything had to match from head to toe and please don't forget that toothpick. Ricky was a handsome man that's how he got his name "Pretty Ricky". He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Terry Jefferson (Shawn) of Chicago; two daughters, Richelle Hill and Mindica "Mindy" Hill of Suffolk, Virginia; special friend, Janice Frye from Suffolk, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; brother, Walliyyuddin Shakir of Hampton, Virginia; special aunt, Juanita Diggs of Henderson, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Cofield of Suffolk, Virginia and Ethel Walker of Henderson, N.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends from Durham and Henderson, North Carolina also Waterbury Connecticut. A public viewing will be held 2-6pm, May 14, 2022 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. A celebration of life will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Gates of Heaven, 112 Beech Street, Suffolk, Virginia 23434. He will be laid to rest at 10:00 am, Monday, May 16, 2022 in Albert G.
