REV. DR. ROBERT E. RODGERS, SR. “BOB” A NATIVE OF NANSEMOND COUNTY, (NOW SUFFOLK), WAS BORN NOVEMBER 9, 1934. HE PASSED AWAY FEBRUARY 10, 2022. HE WAS THE SON OF THE LATE REV. DR. C. C. AND QUINTELIA PUGH RODGERS. HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS FIRST WIFE, BARBARA MASON RODGERS, SECOND WIFE, VIRGIE B. ALSTON-RODGERS; DAUGHTER, PHYLLIS AND TWO SONS, ROBERT JR. (ROBBIE) AND QUINTON (SEAN). TWO (2) SISTERS, MARIE FREDERICK AND HELEN WELLONS. THREE (3) BROTHERS, ALVIN RODGERS, SR., JAMES C. STEWARD, JUNIUS RODGERS SR. STEP MOTHER, LULA CLAYTON RODGERS. HE ACCEPTED CHRIST AT AN EARLY AGE AT OAK GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH UNDER THE PASTORSHIP OF HIS GRANDFATHER, REV. R. R. RODGERS. AS A MEMBER OF OAK GROVE, HE SERVED IN THE SENIOR CHOIR, WILLING WORKERS AND SEVERAL OTHERS AUXILLARIES, AND AS AN ASSOCIATE MINISTER. DR. RODGERS WAS THE RETIRED PASTOR OF PULASKI BAPTIST CHURCH, CARRSVILLE, VIRGINIA AFTER 48 YEARS AND NINE MONTHS. AFTER WHICH, HE WAS GIVEN THE HONOR OF BECOMING PASTOR EMERITUS. AFTER RETIREMENT, HE RETURNED TO HIS HOME CHURCH, OAK GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH. HE WAS A GRADUATE OF EAST SUFFOLK HIGH SCHOOL, SUFFOLK. HE ALSO MATRICULATED AT TIDEWATER COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY OF LYNCHBURG. HE JOINED THE UNITED STATES NAVY AT THE AGE OF 19 AND SERVED FROM MARCH 9, 1954 UNTIL DECEMBER 12, 1957. HE WORKED AT THE NAVY SUPPLY CENTER IN NORFOLK, VA WHERE HE RETIRED AFTER 32 YEARS. HE LEAVES TO MOURN HIS DAUGHTER-IN-LAW, ELANDA RODGERS, (2) TWO GRANDCHILDREN, STEP SISTER, ANNIE KING. FIVE (5) SISTERS -IN- LAWS, ERNESTINE RODGERS, ROSA HICKS, REV DR. ARLIE SHROPSHIRE, REV MARY LOCKLEY AND REV EULA BANKS, TWO (2) BROTHER – IN – LAWS, JAMES BANKS AND HAROLD LOCKLEY. NIECES, NEPHEWS, SPIRTUAL SON & DAUGHTER, REV DR. & MRS. ERVIN M. SCOTT, AND A HOST OF RELATIVES AND FRIENDS. REV DR. RODGERS WILL LIE IN STATE AT PULASKI BAPTIST CHURCH, CARRSVILLE, VA ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2022 FROM 1:00 PM UNTIL 3:00 PM. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2022, AT NOON AT OAK GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH, SUFFOLK, VA. PROFESSIONAL SERVICES WITH DIGNITY HAVE BEEN ENTRUSTED TO CROCKER FUNERAL HOME, INC.
