Raleigh Dowdy, Sr.

Raleigh Dowdy, Sr., 75, of 2100 Kentucky Avenue, Suffolk, Virginia transitioned Monday, August 10, 2020 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was the son of the late Martha Darden Dowdy and Thurman Dowdy, Sr. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Raleigh Dowdy, Jr.; three sisters, Lessie Mae Mayfield, Erma Lee Melton, Louise Dowdy; brothers, Thurman Dowdy, Jr., James Henry Dowdy, Willie Lee Dowdy, Rufus John Dowdy; grandson, Travis Smith. He attended Suffolk Nansemond County Public School and worked at the Norfolk Navy Shipyard as a Machinist and attended St. Paul Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Lorraine Dowdy Cone of Petersburg, Virginia; grandson, Raliegh House; great grandchildren, London Angel Smith, Rian Leigh House, Adian Lee House, Liam Khyro House and Dawain Frazier and Annie Butler-Bank was his dedicated caregiver. A public viewing will be held 3-5 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2020 at Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
