Queen Ester Brown

Mrs. Queen Ester Brown departed this life on March 17th in Obici Sentera Hospital at the age of 98. She was born April 12th, 1927, in Nansemond County, Va. Queen was the daughter of the late Handesrson and Mrs. Mary Wood. She was the wife of the late Willie V. Brown, and she was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Pughsville. She worked on a farm where she was a very hard-working woman, helping provide and take care of her children.

She was predeceased in death by her husband Willie Brown Sr, her daughter Elizabeth Evans. Sons William Wood, Robert Brown, and Larry Brown. Eleven brothers: Elliot Wood, James Wood, Willie Wood, Bennie Wood, Raleigh Wood, Randolph Wood, Roosevelt Wood, Charles Wood, Oscar Wood, Luther Wood, Starlise Wood. Four sisters: Dessie Peoples, Rosa Valentine, Inez Slaughter, and Mary Wood.

She is survived by her two sons, Vernon Brown of Suffolk, Va., Willie Brown Jr.(Monica) of Philadelphia, Pa. Four daughters, Mrs. Dorthy Giles (John) of Windsor, Va., Ms.Cheryl Powell, Mrs. Deborah Bazemore, and Mrs. Elaine Wilkins (Willie) of Suffolk, Va. She was the grandmother of twenty grandchildren, Eighteen great grandchildren. She has one sister-in-law, Ms. Irene Gaynor, one niece, and a host of nephews.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at 12 Noon, Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at New Hope Baptist Church, Suffolk, VA. Ms. Brown will be laid to rest at Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery. Professional services with dignity, compassion, and care have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
