Quantez Russell, affectionately known as “Tazz” to most, was born in Suffolk, VA on July 5, 1985. He attended Suffolk Public Schools, were he played on the varsity basketball team while attending Lakeland High School. Quantez was an active member of East End Baptist church during his childhood and youthful years. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America, earning his eagle badge, sang in the youth choir and was a youth usher.
As Quantez journeyed through life and its highs and lows, he found that he had extreme talent with his hands. He could draw, build wooden rustic furniture pieces such as chairs, tables and jewelry boxes, and he could manicure a lawn like no other. He was employed by his mentor Herman Kee and his father with Kee’s Lawn Service for years. If Quantez mowed your lawn or washed and detailed your vehicle, everyone knew it. He had a big heart for the senior community, especially his own neighbors – taking out their trash, washing their vehicles, cleaning their gutters and power washing their homes. No matter the day or hour, if you needed Quantez and he loved you, he was right there. No matter where life took him or the choices he made, Quantez would let it be known that he knew God – He would often keep a Bible with him.
On the night of Wednesday, November 11, 2015, his family was notified that he was shot and unresponsive in the downtown area of Newport News. Seven years later without his body ever being recovered or anyone hearing from him, his family petitioned the courts to proceed with declaring him deceased. On Tuesday, March 26, 2024, a Suffolk Circuit Court judge declared Quantez deceased legally, in the state of Virginia. His life and beautiful smile will forever be cherished in the lives of those that love him: His mother Joan R. Turner (William), father Euguene Boone III, son Rashad Russell, brother Eugene Boone IV, sister Octavia Saunders (Patrick), sister Jenay Wolfrey, sister Jada Boone, grandparents Eugene Boone Sr. and Judy Boone, close friend Tasha Mitchell Elliott and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held noon, Saturday, November 9, 2024 at East End Baptist Church, 1056 Portsmouth Blvd, Suffolk, VA 23434. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
