Portia Johnson Morings peacefully transitioned from this life into eternal rest on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Virginia. She was surrounded by the love, prayers, and presence of her devoted family.
Born on April 16, 1964, in Suffolk, Virginia, Portia was the beloved daughter of the late Martha Ann Johnson. She was raised in a home filled with love, faith, and resilience. Educated in the Suffolk Public School System, Portia built a life rooted in compassion, joy, and unwavering dedication to her family.
A devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and loyal sister, Portia was a woman of quiet strength and deep love. Her gentle spirit, infectious laughter, and warm heart left an everlasting impression on all who knew her. Whether offering a word of encouragement, sharing a warm meal, or simply being present, she touched the lives of many in simple but powerful ways.
Portia was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Martha Ann Johnson; her cherished son, Samuel Morings Jr.; her sister, Martha Mae Johnson; and three brothers: Joe Johnson, Robert Lee Johnson, and Benjamin Johnson.
Though her absence leaves a void that can never be filled, Portia’s legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 40 years, Samuel Morings Sr.; her loving daughter, Sheneka Morings; two precious grandchildren, Devin Martinez and Leyla Martinez, who were the light of her life; her beloved sister, Beanie Johnson; and two dear brothers, Jeffrey Johnson (Doris) and Larry Johnson (Annie). She is also lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and lifelong friends.
Her presence was a gift. Her life was a blessing. Her memory will be a treasure. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.”
