Perry L. Wiggins

Perry Levorne Wiggins, was born on October 11, 1962, to Gene and Eunice Wiggins in Isle of Wight County, Virginia.

As a child Perry was a devoted member of Friendship Church of God in Christ in Chuckatuck, Va and this was the beginning of a lifelong walk with God. After spending more than two decades singing on the road, Perry made a promise to God and himself that he would find a spiritual home. He honored that vow by seeking out and joining First Baptist Church South Hill where his faith was deepened and his spirit found true peace and fellowship until his death.

Educated through Suffolk Public Schools, Perry courageously stepped forward and made the decision to serve his country. In 1981, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, beginning a distinguished chapter of a life dedicated to serving and protecting his country. During his military career, he bravely served on the front lines of Operation Desert Storm and earned numerous medals and ribbons in recognition of his commitment and service. Perry completed his military career in 1991 as a Staff Sergeant, leaving behind a legacy of honor, discipline, courage.

In 1987 Perry married April Denise Cotton and created a loving home centered around God, love and laughter. Through all of the titles he’s held in life, none brought him more honor or happiness than being the proud father of his two beautiful girls, Shenita and Gabrielle, who remained an important and treasured part of his life.

Perry loved the Lord with all of his heart and delighted in singing his praises. Music was deeply woven into his life and for over 30+ years s, he was a proud member of quartet group known as The Southernaires of Suffolk, Virginia, where he shared his God-given gift as a singer and songwriter. He continued to minister through music until his voice would no longer allow him to do so. Although he eventually had to put down the microphone, the songs, memories, and love he shared through music will continue to live on in the hearts of those who heard him.

Perry also dedicated many years of his professional life to the United States Postal Service. Beginning in 1986, he served his coworkers and community faithfully until his retirement in 2023. During his time with the Postal Service, he worked as a Branch Secretary and Shop Steward, where he was known for his fierce loyalty and steadfast work ethic. Whether offering a helping hand, listening ear, or gentle encouragement you could count on Perry to stand in your corner and show up when it mattered the most.

If you knew Perry, you knew he had many passions. He enjoyed golf, playing pool, watching his beloved Las Vegas Raiders, and, most of all, bowling.

Bowling was more than a hobby for Perry—it was a part of who he was. He traveled near and far, sharing his love and talent for the sport while creating friendships and memories along the way. His accomplishments on the lanes earned him the beloved name “Mr. 300,” and many proudly referred to him as a “Legacy.” His impact on the bowling community reached far beyond his scores. He inspired and coached others, encouraged fellow bowlers, and became a respected and loved member of the bowling family and communit. In 2025, Perry was inducted into the Tidewater USBC Hall of Fame, a tremendous honor recognizing his dedication, accomplishments, and lasting impact on the sport he loved so dearly.

Perry's life was one of service, faith, music, family, friendship, and passion. Whether he was serving his country, singing for the Lord, standing up for his coworkers, cheering for his Raiders, enjoying a game of pool or golf, or stepping onto the bowling lanes, Perry had a way of leaving an impression on everyone he encountered.

Perry was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Kerrington White.

He leaves to cherish his memory and carry forward his legacy: his father, Gene Wiggins; mother, Eunice Wiggins; sister, Sharell Harris; daughters, Shenita White (Joel) and Gabrielle Wiggins-Price (Gregory); grandchildren, Cameron, Ramiyah, Gynia, Justin, London and Liberty.

He also leaves two special nephews, Kimani (Sara) and Raiford (Jessica); along with a host of other relatives and friends that he loved deeply.

Though Perry is no longer with us in the physical sense, his legacy will never be forgotten.

Rest well, Perry.

A viewing will be held on Friday Sept 4, 2026 from 2p.m-7p.m at Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, September 5, 2026 at First Baptist Church South Hill in Chesapeake, VA. The family has entrusted Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. with services rendered with dignity, compassion, and care.
