The Bridegroom Has Come!!
On Saturday, May 24, 2025, the Groom came for His bride, and Jo L. Mason took His hand and departed from this life.
Jo L. Mason was born on July 17, 1953, in Suffolk, VA to the late Overseer Lloyd and Pastor Sarah Hill. She was preceded in death by four siblings: Alice Hill, Joseph Hill, Lloyd Hill Sr. and Sylvia Stevenson.
Jo L. Mason was previously affiliated with the Pentecostal Holiness Churches of American, Inc. from birth until 2012, under the leadership of Bishop H.C. Williams and then the currently prelate, Bishop Early Gay, Sr. She served in many capacities of this reformation, including the Assistant Pastor of New St. Matthew Holiness Church. She served her mother as they both became known as THE RECKON CREW and THUNDER & LIGHTENING. God used them tremendously until the death of her mother. In 2012, she became the Pastor of New St. Matthew Holiness Church, teaching love and declaring the word of God. She was a fierce preacher that touched many lives with sermons titled “Cry Now or Cry later”, “Evicted but Not Homeless”, “Good news from the Graveyard” and “Born Wrong but Determined to Die Right”. In 2024, Pastor Mason and NSMHC joined in with Solemn Assembly House of Prayer of Discipleship, Inc under the leaderships of Bishop Russell Harris, Vice Bishop Joey Baker and Overseer Carolyn Hargrove.
She leaves to cherish her memories, husband Abel Mason, three children: Shequita Mason, Ellis Mason and Adria Mason-Exantus (Daniel): Six grandchildren, Dekarie’ Mason, Joquan Mason, Passion Arline, Savion Mason, Karl Arline Jr. and Ezekiel Mason; Two great grand-daughters, Nyomi Mason and Karter Lowe; Three sisters, Gloria Hunt, Ethel Savage (James) and Paula Majette; One brother Paul Hill (Sandra); A devoted friend, Overseer Carolyn Hargrove; A host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pastor Jo L. Mason remains will lay in-state at New St. Matthew Holiness Church, 213 N. 4th Street, Suffolk. on Thursday, June 5th and Friday, June 6th from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A celebration service will be held at noon, Saturday, June 7th, 2025, at New Mt. Joy Family Worship Center, 307 County St., Suffolk, VA, officiated by Bishop A.S. Hall, Sr. Entombment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
