Myles Lavarez Goodman departed this life on Saturday, July 1, 2023. He was born on February 16, 1999 in Suffolk, Virginia. He attended Suffolk Public Schools and was a part of the drumlines at both Kings Fork and Lakeland High Schools. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Richard Boone & Waverly Goodman Jr, and his grandmother, Dorothy Eloise Goodman. Myles fell in love with drums at a very young age, and as he grew older, he continued to play and was a faithful drummer at New Gospel Temple COGIC for several years, where is uncle, Superintendent Gerald Goodman is the pastor. He also served as the drummer for a short period of time at St Johns Church in Sunbury, North Carolina. Prior to his departure, he was the current drummer of The Birthing Place Suffolk, where his uncle Elder Eric Goodman is the pastor. Myles served at The Birthing Place faithfully every Sunday. Given his love for music, he begin to travel along side his cousin Deleon, and started playing the drums for the group, “Victorious Voices” of Suffolk, VA. Myles was a hard worker and would help anyone who asked him for it. He worked faithfully along side his father and his brother performing lawn care, did some carpentry work, and was a former employee of BAE Shipyard. Not only did Myles play a vital role in both the Boone/Hinton & Goodman families, but he also had an awesome sense of humor and loved to make you laugh. He was loved by so many people. He leaves to cherish his memory: his father, Michael Lee Goodman and “bonus” mom, Shamika Goodman, of Suffolk, VA, his mother, Phillippia M. Goodman of Corapeake, NC, godparents, Rodney and Margaret W. Goodman of Suffolk, VA; brothers: McHale L. Goodman & Gavin L. Goodman; his grandmother, Doris Brody; five aunts: Nakeshia Melton (Courtney) of Charlotte, NC, Cynthia Goodman of Brooklyn, NY, Janice Lassiter (Michael), Tijuana Parrish(Randy) and Natisha Turner, all of Suffolk, VA; three uncles, Elder Gerald Goodman (Margaret), Min. Tony Goodman (Erica), and Elder Eric Goodman (Sawana), all of Suffolk, VA, his favorite pet, Drako, and a host of cousins, family, and friends. Public Viewing will be held 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 14, 2023 at Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2023 at New Gospel Temple COGIC. Superintendent Gerald Goodman will deliver the message of comfort. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
