Ms. Georgiette Rodriguez

March 15, 1951 — December 22, 2020

Georgiette Michele Jones Rodriguez passed unexpectedly, on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the age of 69. Born in Suffolk, Virginia to the late Rudolph “Rudy” Valentino Jones and Elaine Katherleen Hopson, Georgiette was the second child of four sisters. She graduated from Suffolk High School, Suffolk, Va. After graduating she attended Norfolk State University before deciding to serve her country by joining the United States Navy as a Surface Communications Systems Operator. During her years of service, Georgiette toured the world, with stays in places such as, Spain, Greece and Italy. She received several medals which include, but are not limited to, 8 Navy and Marine Corp Overseas Service Ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, 4 Good Conduct Medals, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Accommodations Award and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. After 20 years of serving her country, Georgiette decided to retire, back home to Suffolk, VA. Her retirement was short lived, as her desire to stay active lead her to the United States Postal Service. After leaving the postal service, Georgiette added more excitement to her life by marrying Epifano Rodriguez in 2001. Their friendship remained close and dear until the end. Georgiette was one of a kind, always keeping herself busy with interior design, baking cupcakes and candy apples for her nieces and nephews, sewing, gardening and doing her civic duty of ensuring her neighborhood followed city codes. She was definitely a force to be reckoned with, however, for her family she had a heart of gold and would go to the ends of earth to provide for them. Left to cherish her wise and beautiful memories are her mother Elaine K. Hopson Jones, sisters Angela (Leon) Kerry of Chesapeake, VA, Vickie Wallace of Suffolk, VA, Monica (Trey) Holmes Floyd of Jacksonville, FL. Her nieces and nephews whom she adored, Lisa Kerry, LeAnne Kerry-Winston (Rodney), E’Vanna Wallace, Evan Wallace, Jr., Brittany Holmes, Donald Howell, and Courtney Floyd as well as 11 great nieces and nephews, a special sister/friend Catherine (James) Roberts of Suffolk, VA, special cousins Melvin (Lillian) Hopson of California, Linda and Loretta Jones of New York and a host of additional relatives and friends. Honoring Georgiette’s wishes we will not hold a viewing. Family members are asking all to honor this request. A private graveside service will be held at Albert G Horton, Jr. Veterans Cemetery with the assistance of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. In lieu of donations, please make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Home. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Ms. Georgiette Rodriguez, please visit our flower store.
